Gameplay #1 – A master class in table top game design with James Wallis

Saturday 13 October 2018, 11am-2pm

This is the first of a series of 3 of game design workshops in October.

Spend a high-energy morning learning the art and science of creating tabletop games, guided by veteran designer James Wallis. Starting with a walk-through that explains how games work and how to engineer them, you’ll create a concept, build it into a prototype, and take it through multiple rounds of testing, evaluation and improvements, under his watchful eye.

Suitable for beginners and experienced designers alike, the masterclass is aimed at anyone interested in understanding tabletop games and how they’re made. It’s also useful for design students and digital game designers who want to learn how to paper-prototype their ideas.

James Wallis has been designing games for over twenty-five years and is best known for ‘Once Upon a Time’ (Atlas Games) and ‘The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen’ (Fantasy Flight Games). He runs the games consultancy Spaaace in London, lectures on game design and interactive narratives at London South Bank University, and writes a column for Tabletop Gaming magazine.
